<p>This book on public administration offers a new interpretation of an age-old phenomenon: the crisis of a political system – in this case, the European Union. Not as an incidental and temporary phenomenon, but as a crisis of its identity at the end of its political lifecycle. Only one step away from collapse. Supporting this position is an exploration of undisputed insights drawn from various scientific disciplines: legal and political philosophy, federal and international law, systems theory and organizational theory, the second law of thermodynamics, history, and demography. The author argues that the collapse of the European Union is predictable due to its multilateral treaty-based cooperation, which should be replaced by a constitutional democratic federation. Drawing on Polybius’ theory of Anakyklosis and systems theory regarding entropy, the book outlines how the systemic flaws of the EU’s treaty-based order lead to inevitable decay, while simultaneously creating the conditions for a necessary transition to a federal state structure based on citizen legitimacy rather than interstate treaties.</p>
