<p>The paper explores the historical shift in human guiding principles, tracing the transition from religious devotion and nationalistic loyalty to the modern pursuit of self-realization. It argues that this contemporary focus on the ‘self’—manifested through hobbies, physical perfection, and extreme leisure—has led to a ‘forgetfulness of the future,’ most notably evidenced by declining birth rates in the Western world. The author examines the demographic consequences of this shift, including the erosion of pension systems and social standing for the elderly, and proposes state-level interventions to support child-rearing and reorient societal values toward the common good and future generations.</p>
