<p>Access to quality Early Childhood Education (ECE) remains a pressing challenge in many developing contexts, particularly within rural communities. Despite global recognition of ECE as a foundation for lifelong learning and social equity, rural schools continue to experience disparities in infrastructure, teacher qualifications, and resource allocation compared to urban counterparts. This study explores the equity gap in access to quality ECE in rural schools, focusing on factors that contribute to disparities and potential strategies to promote inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for all children. A qualitative research design was employed to gain in-depth insights into the experiences of teachers and administrators in rural ECE settings. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and classroom observations across three rural schools. Participants were purposively selected to ensure diversity in context and experience. Thematic analysis was conducted using a computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software (NVivo) to identify recurring themes related to accessibility, quality, and equity in early education provision. Findings revealed several interconnected barriers to equitable ECE access in rural areas, including inadequate infrastructure, limited teaching and learning materials, insufficiently trained educators, and socioeconomic constraints that affect children’s participation. Teachers reported difficulties in implementing the curriculum effectively due to large class sizes and a lack of professional support. Despite these challenges, community engagement and parental involvement emerged as critical enablers of early learning where formal resources were scarce. The results underscore the systemic nature of inequality in rural ECE, highlighting the need for targeted policy interventions and investment in rural teacher development. Equity in ECE requires not only physical access but also the assurance of quality learning experiences that address the developmental needs of young children in resource-constrained settings. Strengthening partnerships between governments, communities, and non-governmental organizations can foster sustainable improvements. Bridging the equity gap in rural ECE demands a holistic approach that integrates policy reform, teacher empowerment, and community participation. Ensuring that every child—regardless of geography—has access to quality early education is essential for achieving inclusive and equitable education systems that support lifelong learning and social transformation.</p>
