<p>In 1947, India got freedom from the British regime and the framers of constitution consciously adopted the model of parliamentary democracy. Democracy is a form of Government in which the sovereign power rests in the hands of the people. The periodic elections are essential for the affirmation of popular sovereignty in a democracy 1 .Political parties are the lifeline of a democratic system. The vitality of political parties is such that they are not only the important agents of political socialization but also their growth and functioning in a political system is said to be a bench-mark of political modernization.</p>
