Proposal for New Fire Resistance Classification of Constructive Elements in Brazil

Abstract

The present study initially approaches the questions of standardization and technical regulation in Brazil, regarding fire resistance tests of elements of construction. A qualitative analysis was carried out to define a correlation between fire resistance classification used in the Brazilian technical environment and the international classifications by means of a literature review on international fire resistance testing methodologies and standards. Through the decision tree tool, it was confirmed that the European fire resistance classification is most updated when presenting test results. Considering that Brazil needs an update of the scope of standardization in fire safety area, this study proposes a new classification of fire resistance, harmonized with the tests and which is comprehensive to all national constructive elements, with results that can be understood by international technical community.
