Abstract
The maritime industry drives global economic growth and relies on a skilled workforce focused on safety. The study aimed to compare risk awareness levels between STEM and Non-STEM maritime cadets at SMET. 120 first-year cadets completed a validated questionnaire. Results indicated a moderate level of risk awareness among both groups, slightly higher in STEM. Statistical analysis, including an Independent Samples T-Test, found no significant difference. This highlights the importance of early safety training for all cadets to ensure consistent maritime safety practices. It also underlines the essential of integrating Pre-Baccalaureate maritime education into the curriculum to enhance risk awareness.
