Abstract

Hamartomas are developmental tumour like malformation in which the normal elements of the organ are abnormally represented, in their quality, arrangement, degree of differentiation or all three. The occurrence of groin hamartoma is an extremely rare clinical entity. We report a case of a 42year old female with hamartoma of the groin which was first misdiagnosed as a soft tissue sarcoma because of the unusual disease site and our unfamiliarity with the disease. The patient underwent wide local excision of the tumour and diagnosis was histopathologic ally confirmed. A review of literature shows that the hamartoma of the groin is an extremely rare condition and only a handful of cases reported till date. We report a case of Hamartoma of the groin with relevant discussion on hamartomas.
