Abstract

This study aims to evaluate transsexuality in sports in terms of fair play. Scanning model was used in this study. The scanning model aims to describe a past or present situation as it exists. As a result of the readings, it was understood that the struggle of Renee Richards in 1976 had a positive effect on the participation of transgender athletes in sports. The participation of transgender athletes in sports has had great repercussions. Depending on the participation of transgender athletes in sports, gender validation tests were conducted prior to sports events. The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the National College Athletics Association (NCAA) and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) have supported the participation of transgender athletes in sports events with their decisions. However, the decisions taken have led to various discussions. The most important of these controversies was the unfair advantage of transgender athletes. Because men are more muscular, stronger and taller than women. Therefore, a transgender man gains advantages when he starts competing with female athletes. While there are people who argue that this situation is against fair play, there are also people who consider it a human right for transgender athletes to compete in sports events.
